Youth corps member to engage Ilesha communities on prudent antimicrobial use

August 24th, 2024

A youth corps member serving in Osun State, who is also a medical laboratory scientist, is set to lead an initiative aimed at promoting the prudent use of antimicrobial drugs in Ilesha. This effort is part of his personal community development service project.

Ibraheem Olasunkanmi Qoseem, a young medical laboratory professional, shared that the project was sparked by his observations of local antimicrobial resistance patterns, largely driven by the misuse and overuse of antimicrobial drugs.

As a corps member, Qoseem believes he can make a positive impact on community health by launching a project titled “Antimicrobial Resistance Educational Aids (AMR eduAids).” The initiative aims to empower communities to fight resistant infections (superbugs) and adopt behaviors that encourage responsible antimicrobial use, ultimately improving public health.

Qoseem envisions a future in which the misuse and abuse of antibiotics in Ilesha is a thing of the past. His project plans to engage at least ten communities, secondary schools, and patent medicine vendors.

He concluded by expressing his gratitude to his sponsors: DRASA Health Trust, the Alliance Against Antimicrobial Resistance, Champions’ Educational Foundation, Premium Health and Educational Consultancy, and Cytobiz Medical Limited.
