Nigerian social commentator and former presidential aide Reno Omokri has showered praises on Afrobeats superstar Wizkid, hailing him as a symbol of patriotism and humility in the African music scene.
In a heartfelt social media post, Omokri commended Wizkid, born Ayodeji Balogun, for his contributions to Nigeria’s cultural and economic landscape. He described the Grammy-winning artist as someone who not only creates music that uplifts the youth but also enhances the nation’s global reputation.
“Someone whose songs bring pleasure to our youths and treasure to our economy. But most importantly, his words bring succour to our country and attract positive attention to Nigeria from foreigners,” Omokri wrote.
Drawing a parallel between Wizkid and Rihanna, who is celebrated as a national icon in Barbados, Omokri highlighted Wizkid’s conscious efforts to use his platform to benefit Nigeria.
“He is to Nigeria what Rihanna is to Barbados: One who understands that God put him in the privileged position that he is in and uses his words and actions to make life better, not worse, for his country,” he added.
Omokri also acknowledged Wizkid’s embodiment of the Yoruba cultural value of *Omoluabi*—a person of good character. He praised the artist’s unwavering love for Nigeria, which influences his words and deeds positively.
“His love for his country is more important than his mood or feelings. His affection for Nigeria guards his speech and actions. He is the epitome of the Omoluabi ethos,” he remarked.
Concluding his tribute, Omokri expressed gratitude for Wizkid’s upbringing and prayed for his continued success.
“May God bless Ayodeji Balogun for understanding how to use his words to help those from this part of the world, and may God bless the parents that raised such a wise child.”
Wizkid remains a celebrated figure, admired for his exceptional talent and his role as an ambassador of Nigerian culture on the global stage.
