The Kwara State chapter of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) has knocked the SSA New Media to Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, Yinka Fafoluyi that the Sports writing body is a professional one, and not affiliated to any political body.
The body equally added that members are always being by ethics of their job, as outlined by the constitution of the body, unlike the Social Media class which Solace represents.
“Solace, as he is fondly called, was all over a popular sports WhatsApp platform, saying things he didn’t know about SWAN, pretending to defend the government, and even unprofessionally calling out names.”
“Solace calling on SWAN in the state to review its conduct practically means that he has not been following the activities of the body in the state, and also adding that “you can’t fight any government” has given him away as a complete notice, and absolutely ignorant about the issues at stake.”
“For SWAN to frowned at the ongoing differences between the headship of the State Sports Commission and the Kwara FA over the exclusion of football from the Kwara team to the 8th National Youth Games, and even went ahead to constitute a Committee to settle the differences means that the body didn’t take sides, as Solace believed.”
The Kwara Sports Writers Association of Nigeria revealed they have always been supporting the steps of the government that’s in tandem with the progress of sports in Kwara and said that the Executive Chairman of Kwara state Sports Commission is its witness.
“Even the Executive Chairman of the State Sports Commission, Mallam Bolakale Adisa Magaji will be the first to attest to the fact that SWAN always showcases the government positively in the area of sports.”
They, however, sent a warning to members of the body working with politicians not to ever undermine the strength and integrity of the association.
“As for SWAN, our members know that you work for politicians, and not with politicians. We know you can’t reason beyond defending government, it’s welcomed because that’s what you are being paid to do. But you can do that more professionally. Attacking a professional body like SWAN shouldn’t be part of your mandate,” the statement concluded.
