Nollywood actress Ufuoma McDermott has revealed her decade-long battle with kidney disease, attributing her health challenges to the excessive use of painkillers.

In an emotional interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo, she stressed the importance of prioritizing health and spoke candidly about her personal journey.

McDermott explained that her kidney issues developed from her frequent reliance on powerful painkillers to manage chronic migraines, headaches, and eye pain. “I grew up with migraines, headaches, and eyeaches,” she recalled. “I never wore my glasses because they made me look like a geek. I’d take strong painkillers to make the pain go away.”

The consistent consumption of these medications eventually caused damage to her kidneys, resulting in the chronic condition she has been managing for over ten years. McDermott’s health battle became even more personal when her brother was diagnosed with late-stage kidney disease, requiring immediate dialysis.

The actress’s story has resonated widely, serving as a stark reminder of the long-term impact of painkiller abuse and the critical need for proactive healthcare measures.
