The Operation SAFE HAVEN Troops has apprehended five gun smugglers and recovered ammunition and arms in the process, after an intelligence reports in Jos.
The Troops confirmed this in a statement on its official X handle on Tuesday. It said that the Nigerian Army commenced operation from midnight of Monday 16 September to the early hours of Tuesday 17 September.
It further revealed that Troop raised the hideout of a gun smuggler known as Mohammed Sani around Naraguta Mining Area in Bayameni along Bauchi Road in Jos North LGA of Plateau State, where Sani and four other colleagues of his were apprehended.
Many weapons and ammunition were recovered from the hideout, including two AK-47 rifles, one Fabrique Nationale automatic rifle; 14 AK-47 magazines; one Fabrique Nationale magazine; 5,316 rounds of 7.62 MM (special); 98 rounds of 7.62 MM (NATO) and 43 rounds of 9 MM.
According to the statement, the suspects are undergoing interrogation for useful information to help the Army in rounding up other members of the group.
