Sheriff Shagaya receives honorary membership award from Nigerian Burn Injury Society

Alhaji Sheriff Shagaya, Chairman of the Salman Shagaya Foundation, has been honored with the Honorary Membership Award from the Nigerian Burn Injury Society (NBIS). This recognition comes in light of his significant contribution, including the commissioning of the **Batuli Ajiferuke Shagaya Burn Intensive Care Unit** at the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital on August 16, 2024.

The award was presented during the 29th Annual General Meeting and Scientific Conference of the Nigerian Association of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetics Surgeons (NAPRAS) and the 17th NBIS Conference, held today in Osogbo. The event was attended by the Executive Governor of Osun State, Senator Adeleke Jackson, represented by the Honourable Commissioner for Health, Barrister Jola Akintola.

NAPRAS President, Prof. Peter Babatunde Olaitan, commended Shagaya for his philanthropy. Dr. Kayode Iyun, President of NBIS, praised the state-of-the-art burn care facility in Ilorin, calling it a premier resource in West Africa. He noted that Shagaya is the first recipient of such an award, highlighting the unique and exceptional nature of his contribution.

In response, Alhaji Sheriff Shagaya, represented by the Director General of Salman Shagaya Foundation, Alhaji Muftau Akanbi Oke, expressed heartfelt gratitude for the recognition. Shagaya reaffirmed the foundation’s commitment to continue its humanitarian efforts. He also acknowledged Prof. Ademola Popoola, another awardee, for his crucial role in facilitating the project following their significant encounter in Abidjan.

This award marks a notable milestone in recognizing outstanding contributions to burn care and philanthropy.
