Shagaya to chair KWASU 12th convocation lecture

Kwara State University (KWASU), Malete, has announced Alhaji Sherif Shagaya, Chairman of the Salman Shagaya Foundation, as the Chairman of the Convocation Lecture for its 12th Convocation Ceremony. The official confirmation was made in a letter signed by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Shaykh-Luqman Jimoh, highlighting the institution’s commitment to engaging influential figures in its academic and community activities.

Alhaji Sherif Shagaya, a distinguished business mogul in the oil and gas sector and a renowned philanthropist, will bring his wealth of experience and leadership to the event. Known for his impactful contributions to society through the Salman Shagaya Foundation, his presence is expected to add value to the convocation’s intellectual and ceremonial significance.

The lecture will be delivered by Emeritus Professor Abubakar Sani Sambo, OON, FAS, the President-elect of the Nigerian Academy of Science. His topic, *“The Optimum Utilisation of Nigeria’s Energy Resources for Sustainable Growth and Development,”* is set to address critical issues in Nigeria’s quest for sustainable development.

Scheduled for Thursday, December 12, 2024, at the Mini Convocation Arena, the convocation lecture is a key highlight of the weeklong celebration, which also includes an exhibition, convocation play, and the award of degrees to 6,374 students, including 71 first-class graduates.

KWASU’s 12th Convocation marks not just a celebration of academic achievement but also a platform for thought leadership and community engagement, further cementing its reputation as a university of community development.
