NAFDAC shuts illegal cosmetics factory in Lagos

The National Agency for Food and Drugs Administration and Control, NAFDAC, has sealed an illegal factory manufacturing counterfeit cosmetic products at the Trade Fair Complex in Lagos State.

According to a post on NAFDAC official X handle on Tuesday, the agency revealed that the factory was sealed off after the staff of the agency bombarded the location and obtained numerous unregistered chemicals and packaging materials, with many other expired products being repackaged for consumption.

It also revealed that over 1,200 cartons of fake cosmetics products were recovered by NAFDAC during the operation.

The recovered items include mini-mixing containers, thinners, batch coding materials and unlabeled chemicals, and they were immediately moved to NAFDAC office for adequate investigation.

“The Agency estimates the street value of the confiscated items to be around N50 million.

“NAFDAC urges the public to be cautious when purchasing cosmetic products and report any suspicious activities to the nearest NAFDAC office,” it concluded.
