Popular Nigerian skit maker and activist, Mr. Macaroni, has doubled down on his decision to snub Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, explaining his stance in response to online criticism.

Macaroni’s comments came after an X user, @OyesileJohn, accused him of disrespecting the governor. The user posted, “To d’ifa fun a certain Macaroni who, in an attempt to please the mob, snubbed the governor of Lagos state. Omo ase.”

The post ignited heated discussions on social media, with many rallying to defend the skit maker’s firm principles. Responding to the criticism, Mr. Macaroni made it clear he has no intention of backing down:
“I will continue to snub your Governor. He doesn’t mean anything to me, neither do you or your father. I love that you slaves bring this issue up all the time. For every time you do, I will send you to your masters.”

Explaining his reasons further, Macaroni recounted his harrowing experience of being detained and abused by the police during protests, allegedly on the orders of the state government.

“I can never mingle with a government that stripped me naked, beat, tortured, brutalized, and dehumanized me,” he said. He also recalled being warned during detention to “stop disturbing the governor.”

The skit maker’s comments have reignited debates on the strained relationship between activists and political leaders in Nigeria.
