Regina Iruoha, the Abia State Director of the National Orientation Agency, has stated that as far as political leadership is concerned, men have failed, hence the need to reorientate them.
Iroha made the statement while talking in Umuahia during the weekend as a non-governmental organization, Stand To End Rape, congregated critical stakeholders in Abia State on the way forward to increase women’s participation in politics.
Iroha said, “Women naturally can occupy leadership positions. Women are more capable and men are the causes of their political woes. There is a need to reorientate the men. All over the world, men have failed us. They should go and look after the babies.”
Also speaking, the state Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Prof. Uche Eme Uche asked, “When will women stop clapping for the men, but clap and vote for ourselves?”
She urged women to take action and tell their husbands, “I want to participate in politics,” noting however that women are their own albatross.
According to the Deputy Chairman of Umuahia North Local Government Area, Mrs. Chinwe Odoemenam, women have been the backbone of the society and constitute half of the population of the Nigerian society are significantly underrepresented in politics and are subjected to injustice.
She noted, “Men have been using propaganda and blackmail against women to pull them down.
“In politics, there are responsible women. A government that excludes women excludes progress.”
