The Libya Football Federation (LFF) plans to challenge the Confederation of African Football’s (CAF) decision to award Nigeria a 3-0 victory in their forfeited Africa Cup of Nations qualifier match. Libya will appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS) within the allowed three-day window.
The appeal follows CAF’s ruling that Libya breached regulations surrounding the October 15 match, which was canceled due to logistical issues. Nigeria’s Super Eagles faced severe challenges, including an unplanned diversion to Al-Abraq International Airport, where they were stranded without basic amenities for over 18 hours.
Libya hopes to overturn the decision, currently placing them at the bottom of Group D. The appeal’s outcome could significantly impact both Libya’s and Nigeria’s standing in the AFCON qualifiers. With Nigeria needing just one point to secure their 2025 AFCON spot in Morocco, CAF’s response to the appeal will be closely watched.
