Kwara United Football Club secured another crucial away point on Wednesday, playing a 1-1 draw against El-Kanemi Warriors in Maiduguri during their match day 2 outstanding fixture.
The Harmony Boys were on the verge of claiming all three points before El-Kanemi equalized in the dying moments of stoppage time, denying Kwara United a full victory.
Despite the physicality and aggressive play of El-Kanemi, Kwara United’s defense, led by goalkeeper Nurudeen Badmus and supported by Yahaya Ibrahim, Anthony Anioke, and Kabiru Mohammed, managed to keep the first half goalless.
Emmanuel Ogbole gave Kwara United the lead in the second half, converting a penalty awarded for a foul inside the box. The team maintained their lead throughout the regular time, but El-Kanemi capitalized on several late corner kicks, finally equalizing in the 94th minute through
Risilanu Ismail.
After the game, Kwara United’s coach Tunde Sanni praised his team’s commitment and discipline, expressing optimism for their continued progress this season. He acknowledged the disappointment of losing the lead but urged fans to continue supporting the team as they aim for success.
Kwara United now have 10 points from 8 games and will face Rangers International at the Kwara State Stadium in Ilorin on Monday, October 28.
