Jade Osiberu has announced her return to filmmaking with her latest project, Christmas in Lagos, set to premiere on Prime Video this December.
In an official statement on August 28, 2024, Osiberu shared that after a deliberate year-long break, she has been preparing for this special holiday film.“If you’ve followed me for a while, you’ll know that when I’m quiet, it means I’m cooking and food is done. I have some exciting news—we made the most beautiful, heartwarming Christmas film ever, and it’s coming to Prime Video this December,” she said.
Osiberu also revealed that the film features a blend of prominent actors and Afrobeats stars, expressing her excitement about the collaboration.“It was such an honour to work with some actors whom I’ve admired for years, and some of the biggest names in Afrobeats, because what’s a detty December film without Afrobeats,” she added.
Set amidst the vibrant “Detty December” celebrations in Lagos, the film follows four friends as they navigate friendship, love, and loss during the festive season.
Known for her acclaimed crime thrillers like Gangs of Lagos and Brotherhood, Osiberu has established herself as a leading filmmaker in the Nigerian film industry.
In her announcement, she acknowledged that this Christmas movie might seem like a departure from her usual genre but reassured her fans that she isn’t leaving crime thrillers behind. She even hinted at two upcoming action films currently in development.“So I can hear all my action people be like, ‘Jade, what’s all this romance?’ Well, it’s love and violence always, I got you. Very soon, I’m going to share the tea on two action films that we are developing. All I can say is that one of them is of the gang nature,” she concluded.
Christmas in Lagos features a star-studded cast, including notable actors Richard Mofe Damijo (RMD), Shaffy Bello, Wale Ojo, Teniola Aladese, Angel Anosike, Shalom C Obiago, and Supacell star Rayxia Ojo. The film also includes appearances from Afrobeats stars like Adekunle Gold, Waje, Wurld, Liya, Ayra Starr, and Ladipoe, who will add to the festive atmosphere with special performances.
