Rema, the Nigerian Afrobeats sensation, has continued to assert his place among the genre’s top stars following the global success of his hit single ‘Calm Down’. The young star, who has repeatedly claimed his spot among the “Afrobeats Big 3”; Davido, Wizkid, and Burna Boy, believes that his rapid rise in the industry has led some to feel uncomfortable with his success.

In a recent interview on The Breakfast Club, Rema shared his thoughts on the swift nature of his success and why some might be reluctant to acknowledge him as part of the biggest names in Afrobeats. “I think the success came too quickly that some people wish I didn’t get it too quick,” Rema revealed, referencing the record-breaking impact of his ‘Calm Down’ remix featuring Selena Gomez.

He continued, “You know when they want to give you respect and you have to be 10 years in the game, I think my career didn’t play according to those rules. I was already breaking 7-year-old records when I was just 3 years in the game.”

When asked if he feels he deserves to be mentioned alongside Afrobeats stars like Davido, Wizkid, and Burna Boy, Rema confidently responded, “With respect to the OGs, but I am one of them…”

Rema’s sophomore album, ‘HEIS’, reflects his desire to break away from the norm and carve his own path in the music industry. The young star’s bold claim to a place in Afrobeats’ upper rank has stirred conversations among fans, as he continues to prove that his success is here to stay.
