Controversial sex therapist Hauwa Mohammed, popularly known as Jaruma, has revealed the real reason behind her marriage to Ross Fahad Isabor, a union that ended in 2021 after three years.
In a recent interview on the Issues and Society podcast, Jaruma, who gained fame for selling aphrodisiacs, shared that her decision to marry was driven by societal pressure rather than love.
She explained that as a single woman in the sex products business, she faced intense backlash, particularly from northern Nigerians. “There was massive criticism from the north because I was selling sex products as a single lady,” she said. “People wondered why a single woman was allowed to teach them about the bedroom and make a fortune from it.”
Despite the criticism, Jaruma’s business flourished, generating N760 million in just three years. “The sex industry is a multi-billion-dollar industry. My business was thriving, and I couldn’t leave because of the heat,” she added. She believed marriage might quiet her critics, leading her to wed only a month after meeting her ex-husband. “I didn’t get married out of love; I got married to escape the pressure.”
In 2022, her ex-husband, Ross Fahad Isabor, publicly accused her of using his name to promote what he called “fake products.” Despite the controversies, Jaruma’s brand continues to attract attention and debate.
