Controversial Nigerian singer Portable stirred debate with his latest remark, claiming that Afrobeat legend Fela Kuti could have lived longer if he had stayed out of Nigeria’s political struggles.

Speaking on the Echo Room podcast, Portable argued that Fela, who died at 58, would have benefited from focusing on himself rather than fighting the government. “If Fela had minded his business a bit, he would have lived longer, but he was fighting the government. After God na government,” Portable stated.

The host interjected, reminding Portable of Fela’s activism and his fight for the people. However, Portable dismissed this notion, stressing that Nigerians should focus on self-preservation over activism.

“Nigerians should fight for themselves. If you fight for Nigeria and they catch you, you will suffer, and nobody will support you,”he said, urging individuals to prioritize their families and personal well-being. “When you are okay, your family will be okay. Just feed your family and your neighbours,”he concluded.
