Nigerian musician and actor Folarin Falana, popularly known as Falz, has opened up about his decision to study law, clarifying that it wasn’t due to pressure from his father’s successful career. Falz, the son of renowned Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) Femi Falana, explained that his choice was inspired by the impact his father had on people’s lives.

In an interview with Chude Jideonwo, Falz shared how he was often met with reactions to his famous surname growing up. He recalled, “I won’t say it was pressure, but when I was super young, it was like, ‘These people have to be something’… If I ever mentioned my name, people would be like, ‘Which Falana? Is it Femi Falana? Oh wow.’”

He further explained how hearing stories of his father’s legal battles for others made a significant impression on him: “Everyone sort of had a story about how my dad came to their aid at some point in time… I aspired to emulate what he was doing.”
