Nollywood actress and Special Assistant to the Speaker of Nigeria’s House of Representatives, Eniola Badmus, has praised the Nigerian economy’s performance under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

In a post shared on her Instagram story, Badmus highlighted that Nigeria’s imports are decreasing while exports are on the rise, a sign of economic growth and progress. She pointed to the trade figures for 2024, noting a shift from a consumption-based economy to one driven by production.

“Our imports are reducing, and our exports are increasing. That is a sign that our economy is expanding,” she wrote. “For the year-to-date 2024, our imports were N24.44 trillion, while our exports stood at N38.59 trillion. This gives us an unprecedented trade surplus of over N14 trillion in just eight months. It has never happened in Nigeria. Never. This is a refreshing shift from consumption to production.”

Her remarks come amid widespread economic challenges in the country, including rising inflation and hardship. Just last month, millions of Nigerians took to the streets in the ‘End Hunger Protests’ to express their dissatisfaction with the state of the economy.

Despite the difficulties, Badmus remains optimistic about the country’s direction under Tinubu’s administration, emphasizing that the trade surplus is an encouraging sign of future growth.
