Nigerian-American Afrobeats sensation Davido recently came under fire after proudly sharing that he voted in the ongoing US presidential election. The singer, who posted a picture of himself with an “I Voted” sticker on November 5, 2024, celebrated his first voting experience. However, this announcement was met with backlash from Nigerian fans who criticized him for allegedly not voting in the Nigerian 2023 presidential election.

Fans and social media users took to the comments on X (formerly Twitter) to express their disappointment. One user labeled him a “hypocrite,” accusing him of ignoring Nigerian politics while seeking validation in the US. Another comment criticized his enthusiasm for US elections, calling him and other Nigerian celebrities “useless” for being more engaged abroad than at home.

Social media personality Daniel Regha also joined in, writing, “Davido, where was this energy during the Nigerian general election? You didn’t show proof of voting, didn’t support voters, or use your platform to address electoral issues. But you’re proud to vote in the US?”

While Davido hasn’t responded to the criticism, his post has sparked ongoing debates about the responsibilities of influential figures toward their home country’s political landscape.
