The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) has taken the necessary precaution to postpone the highly anticipated Match Day 2 fixture between El-Kanemi Warriors and Kwara United, initially scheduled for this Sunday, September 15. This decision comes from the unfortunate flood disaster in Borno State, which has caused destruction and chaos in its wake.
The recent floods in Maiduguri, the state capital, have had a catastrophic impact, displacing thousands of people and capsizing numerous schools and businesses. The situation has been further exacerbated by the overflow of the Alau Dam, which has caused the worst flooding in the state in over three decades. Given the severity of the situation, the NPFL has deemed it necessary to postpone the match, prioritizing the safety and well-being of the players, officials, and spectators.
This postponement is a testament to the league’s commitment to ensuring the welfare of all stakeholders and recognizing the challenges faced by the people of Borno State during this difficult time. A new date for the fixture will be announced in due course once the situation has been brought under control and it is deemed safe to proceed.
