German Publication, Weltfussball, has reported that the German Football Association has launched an investigation into allegations of unsportsmanlike conduct by Nigerian international Victor Boniface during Bayer Leverkusen’s Super Cup victory over VfB Stuttgart on Saturday.
Boniface is accused of making an obscene gesture, showing his middle finger to opposing players as he celebrates his team’s triumph in the German Super cup.
Although, referee Tobias Stieler said he didn’t witness the incident, the DFB’s control committee is currently pursuing an investigation based on reports from Stuttgart players. If found guilty, Boniface could face repercussions.
The 23 year old made a strong start by scoring the first goal in the 11th minute, but his outing was cut short due to a tactical switch following Martin Terrier’s red card in the first half, leading to his substitution.
He has been instrumental in the team’s achievements since joining, including a cup double last season, and was named Rookie of the Year after an impressive debut campaign in the Bundesliga.
