Marking a decade in the music industry, Adekunle Gold has opened up about the crucial role producer Pheelz played in getting him signed to Olamide’s YBNL label.

During a recent interview, the Orente hitmaker reminisced about his early career and how Pheelz’s belief in his talent helped him transition from a graphics designer for YBNL to a signed artist. Adekunle shared that his breakout single Sade, a cover of One Direction’s Story of My Life, caught Pheelz’s attention. The producer then brought the song to Olamide, advocating for him to join the label.

“Pheelz heard Sade and told Olamide to check me out. The rest, as they say, is history,” Adekunle said.

Under YBNL, Adekunle released his debut album Gold, which featured hits like Pick Up and Orente, earning him mainstream success. Over the past 10 years, he has evolved into one of Nigeria’s most versatile artists, with a unique blend of Afrobeat, pop, and indigenous sounds.

Now with five albums to his name, Adekunle Gold continues to push boundaries, delivering chart-topping records and solidifying his status as one of Africa’s most coveted performers. Reflecting on his journey, the singer credited the early support of individuals like Pheelz for shaping his career.
