Abia state govt increases traditional rulers’ stipends

The stipends paid to the traditional rulers in Abia state have been increased by the Abia State Government.

Okey Kanu, the state Commissioner for Information, Okey Kanu, made this known on Monday while briefing newsmen on the outcome of this week’s State Executive Council meeting chaired by the state governor, Alex Otti.

He said, “Abia State Government reiterated its commitment to give pride of place to traditional institutions in the promotion of cultural heritage as a people.

“To give further impetus to this, the state government has commenced stipends ranging from N250,000 to N350,000 stipend to traditional rulers in the state.

“In addition to this, members of the Council of Traditional Rulers at the state level will get an additional payment of N100,000 monthly.

“The same will apply to the Council of Traditional Rulers at the LGA levels. All these are to give pride of place to our traditional rulers who are partners in progress with the state government.”
