At a press conference on Wednesday, a heated exchange erupted between Abosede, the late Mohbad’s mother, and Nollywood actor Yomi Fabiyi over allegations surrounding the singer’s death.

The event, organized by Fabiyi’s Break the Silence Foundation and titled “Justice for Mohbad 2025,” became contentious when Fabiyi alleged that Mohbad’s younger brother, Adura, had demanded ₦3 million for information about the circumstances surrounding his death.

Abosede vehemently refuted the claims, accusing Fabiyi of spreading falsehoods and attempting to tarnish Adura’s reputation. She clarified:
“Adura is not the one who messaged you about knowing the cause of Mohbad’s death. Adura sold his phone to Damola because he did not have money. It was Damola that messaged you, and it is publicly known. I confronted the boy, and he confessed and also apologised.”

She further expressed her disappointment with Fabiyi, saying:
“The first time you came out publicly about your intention to help seek justice, I was happy. But later, I felt you also wanted to harm Adura, my son. You said he messaged you, but it’s publicly known he didn’t. Do you want to tarnish his image? If Adura truly knew the cause of his brother’s death, he would have joined him. If we don’t know the cause, I will not mourn over my surviving children.”

In his defense, Fabiyi denied any malicious intent toward Adura or his family. He explained:
“There is no way I would wish Adura or Mohbad any harm. If it wasn’t Adura who sent the message explaining Mohbad’s death, would you want me to keep quiet? All I’m saying is that it was Adura’s handle that sent me the message. I don’t have anything against him. When I saw the message, I thought it was meant to help your brother.”

The confrontation has further fueled public attention on the circumstances surrounding Mohbad’s tragic death.
