The Kwara South Youths Congress has accused Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of using notable individuals, including Engr. Dr. Johnson B.O. Adewumi, founder of Thomas Adewunmi University, as political tools to sow division in Kwara South.
In a statement released on Thursday, the group expressed concern over a proposed summit allegedly orchestrated by the state government to manipulate political narratives in the district.
According to Ambassador Fola Daniel, a leading member of the group, the summit is part of a “divide-and-rule” strategy aimed at destabilizing Kwara South for the benefit of a few political elites.
“Dr. Adewunmi is a successful and respected individual, and we are proud of him. However, we cannot ignore the hypocrisy unfolding under his watch,” Daniel said.
“We will not stand by while he allows himself to be used as a pawn in a political game that threatens the unity and progress of Kwara South. We have countless individuals in the district who reject this new agenda.”
They claim the summit is a calculated move by the ruling party to consolidate political influence in Kwara South.
During a meeting held on Tuesday, where the summit’s details were discussed and agreed upon, the group noted that attendees were predominantly members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). They also revealed that Governor AbdulRazaq joined the meeting via Zoom to express his support for the initiative.
“The Governor, during his address, emphasized his administration’s commitment to transforming the state from a consumption-driven to a production-driven economy. However, this rhetoric masks the true intent of the summit, which is political manipulation,” the group alleged.
The Kwara South Youths Congress urged Dr. Adewumi and other stakeholders to prioritize the collective interest of Kwara South over personal or political affiliations. They vowed to resist any attempt to undermine the district’s unity and warned against using respected figures as tools for political agendas.
