Manchester United has emerged as a serious contender to sign Nigerian striker Ademola Lookman, competing with European giants Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain for his services.
According to CaughtOffside, Manchester United is willing to meet Lookman’s £58 million asking price, with the club closely monitoring the 27-year-old’s situation in Italy.
Atalanta is expected to initiate contract talks with Lookman, but United’s interest could potentially disrupt these negotiations. However, concrete talks have yet to take place, making a January transfer unlikely.
A more feasible scenario is that United will pursue a deal after the current season, especially considering that Real Madrid and PSG are expected to intensify their interest in Lookman next year.
Lookman has had an impressive run in Italy, contributing to Atalanta’s Europa League victory in May and finishing 14th in the Ballon d’Or rankings. His current contract with Atalanta expires in the summer of 2026.
With only 12 months left on his deal after this season, Lookman’s availability could be secured for a reduced fee, estimated between £50 million and £58 million. Manchester United’s new manager, Ruben Amorim, will have to work with a modest transfer budget.
