Jaywon apologizes to Ayra Starr after Grammy nomination controversy

Nigerian singer Jaywon has issued a public apology to Ayra Starr following backlash over a social media post that many perceived as mocking her absence from the Grammy nomination list for the 67th Grammy Awards. The misunderstanding unfolded when Jaywon, who had an ongoing online feud with Ayra, shared a photo of himself posing with two Grammy trophies shortly after the nominations were announced. Many fans interpreted the post as a veiled jab at the young star’s Grammy snub.

In response to the controversy, Jaywon clarified his intentions on X (formerly Twitter), apologizing for any offense caused. He expressed his admiration for Ayra Starr, saying, “If you see Ayra Starr, tell her I’m sorry she wasn’t nominated for this year’s Grammys. I’m a huge fan of her music, and I believe she’s one of the best female vocalists Africa has.” Jaywon assured fans that his post was not intended to undermine Ayra Starr’s achievements.

As a voting member of the Recording Academy, Jaywon also reiterated his support for fellow artists, saying, “On this side, we don’t pull people down. We elevate, not just for today, but for the future. Ola Inu Kan,” emphasizing his commitment to uplifting others in the music industry.
