British-Nigerian singer Darkoo has shared her emotional journey of coming out as a lesbian to her Nigerian parents, revealing how it lifted a huge burden from her shoulders. In an interview on The Appointment Show, Darkoo explained that it was a more emotional experience with her mother due to their close bond.
“The day I told my mum, I felt a massive weight off my shoulders and I’ve been happy since then,” Darkoo said. Though it was easier to talk to her father, he wasn’t fully open to the conversation.
Despite their traditional values, Darkoo’s parents have accepted her. “I bring girls home, and my parents don’t mind… they love me for me,” she added. Although they don’t agree with her sexuality, Darkoo said she feels at peace, living authentically, and maintains a good relationship with God.
