Yakubu Dogara, former Speaker of the House of Representatives, has revealed that Nigeria politicians in office would have served the country without getting paid against the belief that many are seeking office because of the money.
Dogara said this while appearing on Channels Television on Friday, he insisted that public’s expectation should be adjusted for public officials to achieve such.
“If we can cut the demands on some of these our government officials by 90 per cent I assure you that there are so many people there who are willing to work free of charge,” Dogara said on the programme.
“But the situation is that you cannot put a lot of burden on my head, and you knock on my leg which I am supposed to stand in order to carry the burden.”
He also disclosed that former Assembly national leaders visited President Tinubu at Aso Rock and they discussed the hardship in the country with him.
He assured Nigerians that the president is tirelessly working to ease the hardship Nigerians are facing.
