The Confederation of African Football (CAF) is considering postponing the group stage of the Champions League and Confederation Cup due to the clash schedule with the upcoming Championship of African Nations (CHAN) qualifiers.
CAF President Patrice Motsepe announced in Kenya that the CHAN qualifiers will commence in October, coinciding with the originally scheduled group stage of the Champions League and Confederation Cup. To avoid clashes, CAF may reschedule the group stage games for November and December.
The CHAN qualifier draw has yet to be conducted, and the tournament itself is slated for early 2025. This development may impact the continental club competitions’ timeline, affecting participating teams’ preparations and schedules.
The postponement aims to ensure a smooth and conflict-free schedule for African football. CAF will likely announce the revised dates for the Champions League and Confederation Cup group stage in due course, providing clarity for teams and fans alike.
