On 17th September 2024, Alhaji Shehu Yahaya Amasa, the APC Chairmanship candidate for Asa Local Government Area (LGA), delivered an inspiring speech at the Asa Local Government Secretariat in Afon. The address detailed his vision and key policy initiatives aimed at driving development and improving the quality of life in Asa LGA.
In his opening remarks, Alhaji Shehu Yahaya Amasa acknowledged the presence of various stakeholders, religious and community leaders, elders, and organizations, and expressed gratitude for their support. “I am honoured to stand before you today, seeking your support and partnership in building a better Asa. Our local government deserves inclusive, people-oriented leadership,” he stated.
Alhaji Shehu Yahaya Amasa also drew inspiration from the transformative leadership of Kwara State Governor, Mallam AbdurRahman AbdurRazaq, Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum. He described the Governor’s vision as one that resonates with the collective aspirations of Asa. “Without mincing words, I’m inspired by the transformative leadership of His Excellency, Mallam AbdurRahman AbdurRazaq, the Governor’s vision for Kwara State resonates with our collective aspirations for Asa Local Government,” he said.
Amasa outlined a comprehensive vision for Asa LGA “Our vision is to ensure Asa becomes a local government where quality healthcare is accessible to all, education is affordable and of high quality, and the agricultural sector drives economic growth,” he emphasized.
Alhaji Shehu Yahaya Amasa’s key policy initiatives include:
Healthcare:
“We will upgrade primary healthcare centers, employ skilled healthcare professionals, introduce community health insurance schemes, and improve access to clean water and sanitation.”
Education:
“We will renovate and equip schools with learning materials, introduce digital learning platforms, and provide an enabling environment for vulnerable children. Adult literacy centers will also be a priority.”
Agriculture:
“We will provide farmers with modern equipment and agricultural inputs, and collaborate with the state and federal governments on irrigation projects.”
Infrastructure and Economic Development: ” We will repair roads, enhance electricity supply, and support small businesses. We will also work to attract investments to Asa, including establishing additional Garri processing industries.”
Security:
Alhaji Shehu Yahaya Amasa made security a top priority in his blueprint. He pledged to ensure a safe and secure environment for the people of Asa, stating, “Ensuring the safety and security of lives and properties is our top priority. We are committed to establishing a robust and efficient security system that guarantees a secure environment for growth and development.”
Commitment to Accountability: Transparency and accountability were central themes of the speech. “We will listen to your concerns, work transparently, and account for resources,” Amasa promised. He also highlighted his commitment to empowering community leaders and ensuring the local government complements the efforts of the state.
Unity and Cooperation: Calling for unity, Alhaji Shehu Yahaya Amasa stressed the importance of bridging divides in the community. “Asa’s success depends on our collective efforts. Let us bridge religious, political, and ethnic divides, and foster collaboration to support local initiatives,” he urged.
In his conclusion, Amasa praised Governor AbdurRahman AbdurRazaq’s leadership, which he said had brought unprecedented development to Kwara State. He called on the people of Asa to work together towards a prosperous future, stating, “Together, we can build a prosperous Asa. Let us ensure a brighter future for our community.”
