Nigerian singer Ayra Starr has voiced her anger and frustration following the abduction and murder of Christiana Idowu, a 300-level student from the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), by Adeleye Ayomide, a 200-level student of Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU).
On September 5, 2024, Starr took to social media platform X, calling for justice and an end to the violence women face. In her impassioned post, she wrote, “Stop killing us! Stop raping us! Women deserve better #JusticeForChristianah.”
Christiana Idowu was abducted along the Ikorodu-Yaba Road in August. Her kidnapper used her personal WhatsApp account to demand a ₦1.5 million ransom from her family, sending “view once” images of her in captivity to escalate the situation. Despite her family’s desperate attempts to secure her release, only ₦350,000 could be raised and transferred as instructed by the kidnappers.
After receiving the ransom, the criminal demanded additional information, including a bank statement from the sender, before abruptly cutting off communication. Investigations later revealed a sinister connection between Idowu and her abductor, Adeleye Ayomide, with evidence pointing to prior interactions on social media.
Some of the ransom money was traced to Idowu’s GTB account, which was then funneled into a Wema Bank account linked to Ayomide, who after remanded by the police confessed to killing and burying her in his home.
As the case unfolds, the heartbreaking loss of Christiana has sparked widespread outrage, with Ayra Starr and others demanding swift justice for the slain student.
