Atiku Abubakar, former vice president, has slammed the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limit(NNPCL) for what he termed ‘lack of transparency’ after the company admitted to a debt of $6 billion to petrol suppliers.
NNPCL made the admission public on Sunday, September 1, stating what it has to do with the fuel scarcity that has to be led the country for more than a month.
Mr. Olufemi Soneye, the Chief Communications Officer of NNPCL, stated that the debt has brought about financial difficulties to the company’s operations.
Recall that the Insidekwara reports that NNPCL admits debts posing a threat to the supply of fuel in the country.
As Soneye put it, “NNPC Ltd has acknowledged recent reports regarding its significant debt to petrol suppliers. This financial strain threatens the sustainability of fuel supply.”
Alhaji Atiku Abubakar while reacting to the statement from NNPCL through his media aide, Phrank Shuaibu, expressed fear over the happenings in the country.
“What has become of these fictitious or phantom profits you once proudly proclaimed? Layers of deceit and lack of transparency have brought you to this unfortunate juncture,” the statement on X read.
He, however, said President Tinubu’s administration is piloting NNPCL to ruin, labelling that the government is ‘dismantling its own assets.”
