The deputy senate president, Barau Jibrin has stated that relief materials meant for poor households in Kano state have been diverted.

As the chair of the presidential committee for the distribution of relief items such as bags of rice in the north-western state, Jibrin made the statement while speaking with the newsmen on Thursday.

He said, We just held a meeting in respect of a committee set up by Mr. President on how to distribute palliatives to the needy in respect of the Kano people.

“We are here because the president is concerned about how the thing (distribution) is not being done properly.

“So, he decided to set up this committee to ensure that there is equitable distribution of palliatives to the needy people of Kano state.

“You can see we have taken our time to create a modality that the palliatives will be taken to the people that need them.

“He has given a lot of palliatives, but they are not being distributed evenly, they have not gone to those at the grassroots who should have them.

“Beneficiaries shall be listed on a sheet of paper, and each shall be given a bag of rice (25kg) after such a person is identified through a valid means of identification such as a national identity card, driver’s license, voter’s card, or an international passport.”

The members of the committee cut from All Progressives Congress (APC), New Nigerian People’s Party (NPPP), Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Inter Party Advisory Council (IPAC) and traditional rulers.
