In a bid to strengthen the relationship between the government and community-based organizations as key partners in grassroots development, the Kwara State Government is set to hold a one-day summit and capacity development training for community-based organisations (CBOs) across the state.
The initiative themed ‘Self-help: A sustainable communal development approach, is being organized by the of office of the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Community Development, Dr. Lawal Olohungbebe.
The summit will hold in each of the three senatorial districts of the state between August 20 and 24, according to a statement made available to news men by the Senior Special Assistant on Community Development.
Olohungbebe said Kwara State Governor, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq is committed to deepening collaboration with various stakeholders in community development, especially the community-based organisations.
Oluhungbebd said, “In recognition of the important role of the development associations, the government is interested in providing capacity development for the leadership of CBOs to ensure that the CBOs emerge as more active players in the state development process.
“This initiative is a platform for the various CBOs to share and review their unique experiences and community efforts with other key players like community development experts, representatives from the government and development agencies.”
The event will also feature presentation of awards and matching grants to outstanding development associations in thematic areas like education, ICT, health, empowerment as well as Water and Sanitation Hygiene (WASH).
