Nigerian comedian and actor Bovi has expressed his outrage over a viral video in which a priest is seen striking an altar boy on the head during a wedding ceremony. On September 27, 2024, Bovi took to social media to condemn the incident and highlight the unchecked abuse of children in Nigeria.

In his post, Bovi voiced his frustration, stating, “I’ve been trying to ignore this video like it never happened, but after watching the apology video this morning, I’m more livid and miffed at the rate at which most forms of abuse go unchecked in Nigeria.”

He expressed particular dissatisfaction with the priest’s apology, calling it a “poorly staged” attempt to justify his actions. Bovi wrote, “In the apology video, the priest described his actions as a ‘normal correction’ and a ‘minor correction,’ but he humiliated that child and damaged his confidence. He hit the head of the child for a flimsy reason.”

The comedian emphasized the seriousness of the priest’s behavior, questioning his self-control. “A priest who couldn’t control himself in public, imagine what he’s capable of behind closed doors. If we think this is normal behavior, then we are all abnormal,” Bovi remarked.

He called on the Nigerian police to take action, urging them to intervene on behalf of the child and prevent further abuse. “Knocking a kid in the head unprovoked is a violent and criminal act. @nigerianpolice, why haven’t you invited this man? If you fight for one child, you will be saving many others. We must put out small fires before they consume us all.”

Bovi concluded his post by reflecting on the broader societal implications of such behavior, stating, “In a society where a priest who preaches the teachings of Jesus uses physical harm to convey his unprocessed emotions, there is bound to be doom. We’re probably in hell already.”

His strong words have sparked conversation online, bringing attention to the issue of child abuse and the lack of accountability for such actions in Nigeria.
