3 Unilorites Bag World, Pan- African Debating Championship Posts

Three Unilorin students, Davida Paul, 500-level, Faculty of Law; Ogundare Taye Tobi, 500-level, Faculty of Agriculture; and Ayodele Samuel, 500-level, Faculty of Engineering, have emerged as the Deputy Chief Adjudicators and member of the Tab team at World University Debating Championship (WUDC) and Pan-Africa Debating Championship (PADC), respectively.

A statement by the President of UNILORIN Student Debate Club, Farhan Sodiq last Monday (June 26, 2023),disclosed that the feat was the first of its kind in the history of Africa University debating.

The World University Debating Championship and Pan-Africa Debating Championship are two of the most prestigious debating competitions on the continent and the world respectively, bringing together the best debaters from across the world to compete in a series of debates on various topics.

According to the statement, Davida Paul would serve as Deputy Chief Adjudicator at the World Universities Debating Championship in Vietnam in December 2023, while Ogundare Tobi and Ayodele Samuel would serve as Deputy Chief Adjudicator and members of the Tab Team, respectively, at the Pan-Africa University Debating Championship in Togo, in December 2023.

Sadiq said, “The trio’s exceptional performance at various debating competitions in Nigeria and across Africa earned them the opportunity to take up the prestigious roles. They have proven to be among the best in the world of debating, with a track record of winning several national and international tournaments.

“Being selected as Deputy Chief Adjudicator and Tab-master is a significant achievement for Davida Paul, Ogundare Taye Tobi, and Ayodele Samuel, and it is a testament to their hard work, dedication, and talent”.

In their separate remarks, Davida, Ogundare, and Ayodele thanked the University management and the club for the opportunity given to them. They expressed their excitement and gratitude to serve in such esteemed positions.
